Second One-day International between India and Australia in Nagpur, India beat Australia by 99 runs. Australia won the toss and put India to bat. Indian Batsmen piled up a humungous total of 354 runs for Australia. Indian Batsmen played a wonderful innings and it was a treat to watch. Sehwag (40) and Gambir (76) runs with the partnership of 119 runs laid a good platform. Yuvaraj’s 23 was cameo. Dhoni’s captain knock of 124 runs of just 107 balls and Raina’s 60 runs made India to reach this mammoth total against Aussies. India made a record highest total against Australia. The last 11 overs took the game away from Australia.Australians did not play well. The wickets were crumbled in regular intervals. Except Hussey no one reached half century. Aussies were back to the pavilion losing all wickets in 48.3 overs.

The Captain’s Knock along with his teammates made India to be in Driver seat.

Jog falls, a major attraction in Karnataka, is one of the highest and the best waterfalls in India. Created by Sharavathi River, Jog Falls is also known by alternative names Jogada Gundi, Gersoppa Falls and Gerusoppe Falls.jog1

It is located in the thick evergreen forest of Shimoga District of Karnataka, 104 km from Shimoga. The best time to visit is between the months of August and December. Falls pour from a height of 253 meters in 4 magnificent tracks namely Raja, Roarer, Rocket and Rani. During the monsoon, the falls are hidden by mist giving a very pleasant sight with lush green surroundings. This place is connected by road and rail and a number of private and government buses from Shimoga to Jog Falls. Nearby the falls, there is Linganmakki Dam across Sharavathi River which is being used for the generation of electricity.

Noble Prize for an Indian in Chemistry

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009 for the studies in structure and functioning of Ribosome: The ribosome’s translation of DNA information in life.

Indian-born Scientist Dr. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan shares the Noble Prize in Chemistry along with American Scientist A. Steitz and Israel Scientist Ada E. Yonat this year.

Dr. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, born in 1952 in Chidambaram, who had his early education in Chidambaram and Vadodara and did PhD in Physics from Ohio University, US (1976). He is a Senior Scientist and Group Leader at Structural Studies Division, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, United Kingdom.
